What is the Living Heritage Network?

The Living Heritage Network is the network of people who are a part of the congregation, a part of the community served by the church and others who are interested in the life of St. Augustine.

 Living Heritage Fund

The living heritage fund was set up to financially support the ongoing life of this living grade II listed building. Having been re-opened in 2003 after a period of closure there are many for whom this church is a special place and who have a passion to keep it open for future generations. By giving to Living Heritage you are not only investing in a historic local landmark but also allowing it to become a growing resource for the local community by providing a concert venue and gallery space as well as a centre for community and spiritual renewal. We have many exciting events planned for next year but this beautiful and beloved building consecrated in the reign of Queen Victoria is now in need of costly loving care. After the success of our last fundraising campaign to underpin the west end and north east corner of the church and to repair initial external masonry we continue the work by addressing the tower and high level stone work. Total cost £285,000. We have been promised £199,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund subject to raising the remaining balance. We have also managed to raise approximately £30,000 from local events and successful grant applications. That still means a shortfall of about £55,000...

February 5th 2011 saw the launch of our new exhibition ‘Changing Faces’ telling the story of the life of One Tree Hill, St Augustine’s Church and the people connected with it. When you next visit the church please have a good look at the exhibition of photographs to see how St Augustine's used to look. As time has moved so has the building which is now in desperate need of repair. We are engaged in a major fundraising campaign to save this iconic landmark which we want to develop as a key venue at the heart of the local community. So in 2011 our life as a church has been a gritty mixture of worship, reflection, building work, music, creativity and celebration. See how you could get involved in being part of the exciting ongoing life of St Augustine’s!

Update - 31st December 2012

2012  began with a fantastic pantomime production of 'Cinderella' which raised an amazing £4500 for the Living Heritage fund. Many more wonderful concerts have been presented during the year, and included our first St Augustine's May Festival.

The stonework and guttering repairs have now been carried out and we are very grateful for all the contributions from donors, performers, cake makers, sponsored activities and much much more. Fundraising continues, hopefully at a less frenetic pace, and we look forward to developing St Augustine's as the spiritual and creative centre of our community
